What Is Sculptra?

Approved by the FDA in 1999 and used worldwide, the injectable dermal filler, Sculptra, addresses the underlying cause of facial aging to gradually replace lost collagen that contributes to lines and wrinkles. Unlike hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers like Juvederm or Restylane, Sculptra lasts longer. Patients can enjoy natural, long-lasting results for up to two years. Sculptra uses polyglycolic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible synthetic material commonly found in dissolvable stitches, to stimulate collagen and help restore facial volume. Sculptra does more than simply fill the face. Like dissolvable sutures, the body naturally breaks them down and absorbs them; but with Sculptra, the body breaks it down and replaces it with collagen. Sculptra can be used to treat deep lines (marionette lines), wrinkles (chin and other areas), and folds (nasolabial folds or smile lines). Sculptra’s results develop gradually, look completely natural, and last much longer than its competitors.

Cost of Sculptra Fillers

Every patient is different, including the results they expect. Some patients may need just a little Sculptra, while others may want extensive facial rejuvenation. Because of these factors, it’s difficult to determine the price of treatment. It’s best to call our office and schedule a free consultation so that we can evaluate your skin concerns, assess the number of treatments needed, and the amount of product required to achieve your desired results. Your response to the product and the number of injections will dictate how long the results will last. For some patients, Sculptra can last more than two years.

During your consultation, we will need to discuss any medical conditions you might have that could keep you from getting fillers. And of course, we want to know all about your beauty aspirations. After your consultation, we can set a time to move forward with filler treatments.

Filler injections typically take 10 minutes to perform, depending on the scope of the treatment area.

After a clinician has thoroughly disinfected the treatment zones, a fine needle will be used to inject Sculptra just below the skin’s surface to improve facial characteristics. Your injectionist may gently massage your skin to ensure optimal smoothness.

This poly-L-lactic acid-based filler can last over two years. You can extend the life of your filler treatments with maintenance procedures known as “top-up treatments.” These mini sessions keep filler treatments renewed for a fresh look year-round.

Some people experience mild discomfort at most. For our more sensitive patients, we can apply a topical anesthetic to decrease any pain you may encounter.

Sculptra’s safety has not been established in patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. With that being said, pregnancy causes an increase in growth hormones. These hormones will likely give your skin a more youthful glow. People with bleeding disorders or under the age of 18 should also avoid dermal fillers.

With time, your body naturally absorbs hyaluronic acid-based fillers. This absorption causes a slow loss of volume in treated areas. Top-up sessions are low volume injections applied to restore previously treated areas to their original beauty. You can extend Sculptra’s life for a few years with continued top-up treatments.

You should avoid make-up during the first 24 hours post-procedure. For patients experiencing minor bruising, consider using a concealer with a yellow hue. For redness, use a concealer with a greenish-yellow tone.

Sculptra customers can usually return to their daily routines immediately after treatment. Many of our patients schedule fillers over lunch breaks. It is possible to experience some tenderness, mild bruising, or possibly some post-treatment swelling. Applying a little ice gently to the treatment area can help to decrease any discomfort. Make sure not to apply ice directly to your skin as it could cause damage.

Sculptra Aesthetic does not contain any human or animal components; thus, no allergy testing is needed before treatment. Reported side effects include injection site pain, redness, bruising, tenderness, itching, lumps, bleeding, or possible swelling.

Yes. There is nothing to preclude you from having a responsible drink after receiving filler injections.

During the first two weeks, you may experience redness, swelling, or bruising. After that short time, your filler treatment will expose your full beauty to the world. Your body will begin to absorb the poly-L-lactic acid filler over time, lessening the injected filler’s original volume. We recommend scheduling a top-up session to restore your procedure’s volume a year or two down the road.

Sculptra is dermal filler treatment that encourages the growth of collagen. If you are interested in other procedures that stimulate collagen, consider microneedling, PRP, fractional laser resurfacing, or IPL.
All of these products are excellent dermal fillers that work similarly to lift and add volume to maturing skin. If you are uncertain which filler is right for you, please consult one of our injection specialists to help you choose the best fit for your aesthetic needs.

Sculptra filler procedures require very little to no downtime. Your clinician will go over our post-treatment guidelines to ensure your safety and treatment success. It is not unusual for some patients to experience mild discomfort, swelling, bruising, or tenderness post-injection. These symptoms will disappear over the next few weeks.

Sculptra treatments are designed to improve over three treatments spread across a couple of months. The Sculptra Aesthetic regimen can last up to 2 years. But as your body absorbs the poly-L-lactic acid-based filler, you may need a top-up treatment to combat volume loss. These low volume injections keep your treatment looking good as new.

Sculptra Aesthetic is designed to give you noticeable results that emerge steadily over time. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t see immediate results, as this is normal and temporary. The Sculptra Aesthetic regimen stealthy delivers its complete results with an average of three treatment sessions over a few months. Only you will know why you are always looking younger.

Sculptra is a dermal filler that adds volume to help smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as laugh lines (the creases that extend from the edge of your nose to the corner of your mouth.

Sculptra filler is comprised of hyaluronic acid. This acid is naturally generated by your body to support structure, deliver nutrients, retain your skin’s moisture and smoothness.

You should not receive injectable fillers if you have a history of severe allergic reactions to poly-L-lactic acid or lidocaine. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also avoid filler treatments.

Sculptra fillers are approved to add volume to smile lines, marionette lines, the corners of your mouth, pre-jowl folds, and chin wrinkles. For lip augmentation, consider Juvederm or Restylane products.

Common Sculptra Uses

Sometimes combined with a liquid facelift, Sculptra is great at refortifying the underlying structure of the face. It restores youthful collagen, plumps the face, and fills hollow areas. It adds fullness and volume to diminish wrinkles and lines, especially smiles lines, marionette lines, and wrinkles around the chin. It restores youthful contours in the cheekbones, thickens the skin, adds volume to the temples and jowls, and softens the face. Sculptra lifts and revitalizes the skin from the subdermal layer out.
