PRP Done Right

Cutting Edge Equipment
Our medical practice uses PRP to promote healing, using your blood to enrich your skin. Sometimes combined with microneedling treatments, PRP is like using your own body’s superpowers to combat aging. To do this, one of our medical practitioners draws just enough blood for the procedure into vials and places it into our centrifuge machine to spin, separating the platelets from the rest of the blood. Once complete, the platelet-rich plasma is ready to go, carrying eight essential growth factors and signaling proteins. There is virtually no risk of allergic reaction or intolerance because PRP is autogenous, meaning it’s derived from your own blood.

What Is PRP?

PRP is a 4-step process. We draw a small amount of blood. Next, we place it into a centrifuge machine to separate the platelets from the rest of your blood. While we’re waiting for the blood to separate, we apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area. We then reinject the highly-concentrated, platelet-rich plasma back into your skin to stimulate and accelerate the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin.

An innovative treatment, PRP has been around since the 70s and has evolved in most sectors of medicine. Aesthetically, PRP has numerous benefits. It can improve skin tone and texture, reduce fine lines and scarring, stimulate collagen, increase cell production for radiant, beautiful skin— your own skin rejuvenation in a vial.

PRP is a great procedure for anyone starting to lose skin volume and elasticity. Without the use of foreign substances or prescription drugs, PRP is an excellent alternative for anyone concerned with allergic reactions or wanting to use more natural therapies.

Platelet Rich Plasma Process

Since PRP is extracted from a patient’s own blood, there is little cause for concern regarding side effects or allergic reactions.

WHAT TO AVOID

For best results and to decrease potential bruising, please avoid blood-thinning medications and herbal supplements. Avoid aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen, Motrin, and Aleve. Very high doses of some vitamins and supplements can thin your blood and increase your chances of bruising. Please notify us if you are taking Coumadin, Plavix, or any other blood-thinning medications. During PRP treatments, please notify our staff if you have any medical history changes or personal activities that may be relevant to your treatment.

Expectations of PRP

With little to no downtime, PRP is effective at reducing the telltale signs of aging. It takes 3-4 weeks for results to appear, but it typically lasts 12-18 months after your course of treatments. It works great at rejuvenating the sensitive area under the eyes where lasers can’t treat, the face and cheeks, hands, décolletage (the delicate space between the chest and neck), neck, and hair restoration. It helps the skin structure, including those who have had their fair share of sun damage over the years.

Cost of PRP

The price of PRP ranges depending on the size and scope of the treatment area. Some patients may need minor treatment, while others require several sessions or a cocktail of procedures to maximize results. Since PRP doesn’t relax muscles, many patients choose to combine it with Botox or other popular neuromodulators for even greater effects. It’s best to call and schedule a complimentary consultation with one of our medical experts to discuss expectations on how PRP can help your anti-aging and skin rejuvenation treatments.

Getting To Know PRP

The lowdown on PRP therapy and why it's so amazing!

Platelet Rich Plasma, more often referred to as PRP, utilizes a cross-section of your blood to stimulate your body’s healing process. When injected into your face, it promotes collagen production and healthy skin. The treatment results in tighter skin that softens fine lines and wrinkles while improving tone and texture.

PRP is injected into your skin using fine microneedles. The platelet-rich plasma is produced by drawing blood from a patient and placing the vials into a specialized centrifuge.

PRP is harvested from a patient’s blood. This blood is spun in a specialized centrifuge at high speed until it separates into three parts. The lower part of the blood contains red blood cells, and the top-level has platelet-poor plasma, but in the center is a thin level of plasma rich in white blood cells and platelets referred to as the buffy coat. It’s this layer that we use to treat patients.

Our practice focuses on the facial treatments for anti-aging, but PRP is widely used in sports medicine to accelerate the healing process of sport-related injuries. PRP has also become quite popular in treating hair loss as well. Since PRP is harvest from your blood cells and encourages healing, it can be used in most parts of the body.

Micro wounds caused by punctures from needle insertion trigger the injected platelets to swing into action. Activated platelets heal skin tissue by encouraging collagen growth and vascular repair, resulting in tighter, brighter, and smoother skin.

Pain is subjective, and while some patients don’t experience any pain, it is not uncommon for others to feel some moderate discomfort. Injections are performed using tiny needles that do not harm the skin and are very well tolerated. Prior to treatments, we apply a topical numbing cream for sensitive patients who might experience a mild burning or tingling sensation.

Okay, I'm ready to kick-start my body's natural regenerative process.

Typically, PRP treatments take an hour or two to complete. Thirty minutes of this time is reserved to draw and process blood into platelet-rich plasma. While you wait for your blood to be processed, a clinician will disinfect the treatment area and apply a numbing cream to diminish any discomfort during the procedure.

Though results are not immediate, patients typically begin to notice their skin tightening with improvement in tone after a week. You will continue to see improved skin health over the next four to six months.

Though you may require a few PRP treatments, the results can last over 18 months before you need to consider another treatment. Speak with your clinician on how you can extend your results even longer using a specialized home skincare regimen. We might not be able to stop the aging process, but PRP can sure slow it down.
There is very little to no downtime associated with PRP injections. Some patients may experience some redness or mild swelling, but these symptoms typically resolve within 24 hours. If combined with microneedling, these symptoms may take longer to go away. Many people choose to set appointments near the end of the week, so they can take the weekend to recover.

Most patients will notice results following their first treatment; however, we typically suggest three sessions to maximize treatment results. With that being said, everyone is unique and will have different skincare needs. Some individuals may require more treatments or even yearly refreshers to keep a healthy glow.

Wrinkle relaxers like Botox offer dramatic results almost immediately. They paralyze the muscle, reducing the muscle’s ability to make certain wrinkle-causing expressions. Platelet-rich plasma improves your skin over time, but it does not prevent your muscles from causing wrinkles. Discuss with your clinician about your skin type and what will offer you the best result. Keep in mind that both therapies can work in harmony to reduce the effects of aging while refreshing your skin.
Since PRP procedures utilize your blood for treatments, there really isn’t a bad candidate. The better question might be, “Will PRP give me the results I want?”. PRP treatments offer a very natural, anti-aging look over time. If you want quicker, more dramatic results, please talk with your clinician about combining PRP with other procedures to achieve the desired results. We are here to make your beauty decisions a reality.

Syringes equipped with tiny needles are used to inject platelet-rich plasma harvested from your blood into your skin. Injection wounds, combined with the injected platelet-rich plasma, activate the natural healing process, resulting in brighter, younger-looking skin.

People treated with platelet-rich plasma can experience skin that naturally appears younger, smoother, and brighter. Wrinkles, under-eye circles, and firmer skin are all hallmarks of PRP therapy.
You may wash your face using a mild soap six hours after treatment. If you have any concerns about any cleansing products you currently use, please discuss them with your injection specialist. They will be able to recommend optimal home skincare advice.

Yes! Not only can men enjoy more youthful skin, but it has become quite popular to have platelet-rich plasma therapies applied to the scalp and hairlines to stimulate new hair growth.

Make sure to hydrate well both the day of and before your treatment. Being well hydrated takes some stress off your body, allowing for easier blood draws. For optimal results, avoid anti-inflammatories drugs like Asprin, Aleve, Advil, and Ibuprofen for the next two weeks. If you are feeling any discomfort, we recommend Tylenol.

PRP Precautions

PRP Precautions

Concerns you might have about PRP treatments.

PRP therapies are some of the safest cosmetic procedures performed today. Because the platelet-rich plasma is harvested from your blood cells, there is very little chance of an adverse reaction. You can expect some temporary redness, bruising, and mild swelling post-treatment. These symptoms typically diminish over the next 24 hours or so.
Make sure not to touch or scratch your face 6–24 hours post-treatment. Be sure to spend your next 24 hours in a clean space with unpolluted air. Avoid stressful situations that can hinder your body’s healing process. And of course, make sure you get plenty of sleep; people didn’t coin the term “beauty sleep” for nothing after all.
PRP therapies are considered very safe by medical professionals worldwide. People with any health conditions like compromised immune systems, an active infection, or bleeding disorders should consult with their physician before considering platelet-rich plasma treatments. As with any beauty treatment we offer, you’re often at risk of receiving extra compliments. We suggest wearing simple yet boring clothing with a large floppy hat that hides your beautiful face to avoid unwanted attention.

PRP injections are considered extremely safe by the medical community at large. Since the platelet-rich plasma is harvested from your blood, there is minimal risk of any adverse reactions. Many patients will experience minor swelling, bruising, soreness, or some redness immediately following treatment.
