As you age, your skin will inevitably develop fine lines, wrinkles, and other textural changes. Some of these texture changes are simply the result of aging, while others can be caused by sun exposure, scars, or burns. Although facial creams and dermal scrubs can help improve the appearance of your skin’s surface, they rarely are able to correct the textural anomalies that are present at a deeper level.

Fractional laser with our Palomar Icon system is a non-invasive treatment that delivers a laser beam divided into thousands of microscopic beams focused into treatment zones that target a fraction of the skin at a time. Also known as fractional skin resurfacing, the microbeam lasers penetrate into the epidermal and dermal layers of the skin layer, stimulating collagen and naturally causing your skin to smooth out and improve surface texture issues like fine lines and wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks.

Did You Know?

Fractional Lasers earn their name because they separate laser energy so that it can be focused on a fraction of the skin. Because fractional lasers, focus laser energy within a specific location, they avoid damage to the surrounding tissues, require less downtime, and are especially effective in treating skin blemishes.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Am I a candidate for Fractional Laser treatment?

You may be a candidate for Fractional Laser treatment if you have any or all of the following:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Pigmentation problems like dark spots or melasma
  • Acne, surgical or traumatic injury scars
  • Sun damage
  • Stretch Marks

What can I expect when undergoing Fractional Laser treatment?

When undergoing fractional laser treatment, you can expect to have the laser held over the areas designated for treatment. The laser will gently pulse and heat your skin. You may experience sensations of tingling or mild burning during the treatment. The laser beams will penetrate your layers of skin and the heat produced will stimulate the production of collagen. The entire procedure can last from 15-45 minutes and we will do everything to keep you as comfortable as possible. Depending on your skin and treatment goals, multiple treatments may be required to obtain the desired results.

After your treatment, you may feel as if you have a light sunburn, which means your skin is healing itself. The healing process can vary and results are usually noticeable within one to three weeks. Some patients may notice results after their first treatment, while others may need multiple treatments before they notice results.

How does Fractional Laser treatment compare to IPL?

Fractional Lasers and IPL are both very effective non-invasive skin treatments.  IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, works best to address skin tone variations such as broken blood vessels, brown or red spots.  Fractional Laser treatment is most effective with skin texture issues such as fine lines, wrinkles, scars and stretch marks.

Is Fractional Laser treatment safe?

Yes, fractional laser treatment is safe because it only applies laser energy to a specific area and leaves the surrounding tissue untouched. This laser energy effectively and safely promotes the development of healthy tissue.

However, like any medical treatment, there can be some possible side effects. These side effects are generally mild and can include: redness, swelling, itching, and crusting.
